The annual Fort Nottingham Highland Games and Festival takes place in the beautiful fields of Fort Nottingham, surrounded by the quaint villages in the lush green, wooded hills of the Midlands. This South African natural landscape, coupled with some imagination, could easily be mistaken as the Scottish Highlands.
The Fort Nottingham Highland Gathering is a ‘festering’ event filled with all sorts of festival events, exhibitors, food stalls, highland dancing and athletic games traditionally found at Scottish gatherings like the Breamar Games. The event creates interest and enthusiasm among many of the communities of Scottish ancestry in the Midlands Meander area and beyond, as well as amongst the general public.
The adjoining fields of Fort Nottinham make this an ideal location to host different games and events on different fields, and allow large crowds of people to attend the festival. A majority of families in this region and the target market claim Scottish descendant and will greatly enjoy such a traditional event that is one with Scotland’s traditions.
Nottingham is located closely to the N3 highway (20 kilometers), a short drive from Pietermaritzburg and an hour or two’s drive from Durban. It is centrally located in the famous Midlands Meander; Natal’s Midlands Arts & Crafts Route, that attracts thousands of people from all over the world. This area also boasts the largest concentration of working and retired residents in the Midlands.
