Midlands Meander Marathon 2009 – where to find accommodation

If you are an addict jogger and an enthusiast about outdoor jogging events then you should not miss this year’s Midlands Meander Marathon. The Midlands Meander provides for a breathtaking and scenic route as the competitors make their way through this beautiful countryside not so far away from Durban, Kwazulu-Natal.
The Midlands Meander Marathon takes place on 5 April 2009 and starts early morning at 06h00 from the Clifton Prep School in Nottingham Road. The race takes place in probably the most beautiful time of the year in Kwazulu-Natal, making the undulated road ahead a little bit easier whilst competitors take in their beautiful surroundings of the Midlands Meander countryside.
The first 10 kilometers of the race is fairly easy with a four kilometer detour nearby the 12 kilometer mark that takes the runners off and back in to Fort Nottingham. The race gets more challenging at the 18 kilometer mark due to the down gradient becoming steeper, but breathtaking views of the mountains and Umgeni River Valley provides a good consolation prize.
The marathon starts at 1 480 meters above sea level and ends at 1 100 meters above sea level. But what really provides a challenge is the 250 meter drop in sea level over the last 14 kilometers.
If you are competing in the Midlands Meander Marathon and need to travel a long distance to get to the race why not make a weekend of it by visiting one of the many beautiful coastal towns of Kwazulu-Natal like Umhlanga Rocks. It is about a 90 minute drive from the Midlands Meander and is the perfect beach getaway to relax after a long time of training for the race and competing in the marathon. It is the ideal place to book your holiday accommodation but also beach accommodation.
Luxury accommodation is what sums up No. 5 Casa Playa in Umhlanga. It is a spacious and luxurious, self catering apartment situated on Umhlanga Rocks’ main beach. This stylish 300 square holiday apartment provides guests the ultimate place of luxury, comfort and attention to detail. Guests can relax on the veranda overlooking the beach whilst enjoying a refreshing beverage lying on the sun lounger. Isn’t it just the perfect way to wind down after running a marathon?
