The Slow Food Festival
The Midlands Meander was originally conceived as an arts and crafts route from Mooi River to Pietermaritzburg, and today it boasts 160 distinct attractions. It has developed into a lifestyle experience where creative people make a living by simply being in complete harmony with their natural environment. Traveling the Midlands you can expect anything and everything from foodies, crafters, outdoorsy types, wellness gurus and organic farmers all inviting you into their farm like homes, country hotels, guest houses and B&Bs, roadside stalls and village shops.
The unhurried nature of the Midlands Meander allows one to explore these country roads at a leisurely pace that will take you to lavender farms, honey shops, cheese farms, leather shops and amongst many other locally produced goods. If you are a cheese enthusiast be sure to stop over at Belivigne Cheese and the rustic Marrakesh Cheese Farm for delicious cheese tasting and sales. When traveling the Midlands Meander you are absolutely required to meet the Swissland goats and taste the farm’s award-winning selection of cheeses, and its delicious home-made ice cream.
The Midlands Meander Tourism has thought it wise to bring visitors a more tangible experience of this exquisite country escape set in Kwazulu-Natal by hosting a Slow Food Festival. This 10-day event is created around the theme of locally produced, wholesome food and its enjoyment in a gorgeous country setting. The Midlands Meander Slow Food Festival has been temporarily booked between 6 June 2009 and 16 June 2009; however the dates still need to be confirmed. So keep your diaries open during this time and watch news bulletin of Midlands Meander Tourism or SA Venues.com.
