The Sardine Run
The Sardine Run in Kwazulu-Natal is the annual migration of millions sardines, Sardinops sagax; migrating from the East Coast to Kwazulu-Natal between May and July each year. It has been called the Greatest Shoal on Earth and the most amazing natural history spectacle that you will ever witness. Not only do thousands of visitors flock to Durban to see this spectacular sighting of sardines, but also to see the diversity of animals associated with the sardine run which includes Dusky sharks, Copper sharks, Blacktip sharks, thousands of common Dolphins and Gannets, Bottlenose Dolphins, Humpback whales and Brydes whales. Penguins and seals can also be expected amongst these sardine run of water animals. The ocean predators take great advantage of this gigantic feasting opportunity.
