Self Catering Holiday Tip

No matter where you are planning to go on your holiday, be it Durban South Africa, London England, or some other exotic locale, it is a good idea to think about using a holiday apartment in your stay. What many people fail to realize when trying to find lodging in any area is that while staying at a hotel may seem like a good idea, the real discounts you get are when it comes to package deals. You may have to use a certain air carrier, and in many cases, these deals still don’t include many things like meals, transportation to and from the airport, and hidden fees.

These fees could actually make your stay more expensive. If you are traveling alone for example, you may have to pay extra for a single person, or you may even have to deal with sharing a hotel room or suite with a complete stranger. While this person may be some sexy woman, in most case you are hooked up with the same sex that you are. It could be some loud-mouthed drunk, and of course, you will never know until it’s too late.

When choosing a holiday apartment, be realistic about your expectations. Do some researching in the area you are planning to take your holiday, and find out what apartments have availability. Don’t expect if you are traveling in a group that you are going to be able to find an apartment with multiple bedrooms that are able to accommodate everyone to their own room. You may find one with six bedrooms, but the chances of this are very slim. Most holiday apartment accommodations average two to three bedrooms, so some of you will have to bunk up.

Another good piece of advice is to make a checklist of what things you are looking for in an apartment. Do you want a full service apartment, where a maid comes in every day and cleans up, or can you do some things on your own? How close is it to markets and grocers, so you don’t have to go far to buy food. What kind of amenities are you looking for? Do you require laundry services, or need to be close to tour starting points?

There are many considerations to think about beforehand. However, in the long run, it is a good idea to rent one of these over a hotel booking. You have some kind of privacy, you don’t have to worry about most of your budget going to food, and of course, many of the comforts of home. It also allows you to explore the city or country at your leisure, doing what you want, when you want.

When you are booking your holiday apartments, it may also be a good time to pay for any tours or other attractions you may be interested in seeing. Those seeking summer holidays may find that if they haven’t booked ahead, some things won’t be available later on when you are there, too much disappointment. It is a good idea to also check for any hidden fees taxes and such, so you can pay right then, or have an idea in your budget.
